Vladimir Putin Declares Russia as the First Country to Approve a COVID-19 Vaccine

In a televised government meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia has become the first country in the world to grant regulatory approval to a COVID-19 Vaccine, after less than two months of human testing.

This paves way for the mass inoculation of the Russian Population.

Putin said that the vaccine, which is being developed by the Gamaleya Institute of Moscow, was safe, adding also that one of his daughters was among the first to have had the vaccine administered.

“I know that it works quite effectively, forms strong immunity, and I repeat, it has passed all the needed checks,” said Putin.

He said he hoped the country would soon start mass producing the vaccine.

Russian health workers treating COVID-19 patients will be offered the chance of volunteering to be vaccinated soon after the vaccine’s approval.

However, the approval of this vaccine by the Russian health ministry comes before the start of a larger trial involving thousands of participants, often referred to as the Phase III trial. These trials, which involve a high participation rate, are usually considered essential for a vaccine to receive due approval.

Meanwhile, the President of the Philippines, Duterte has declared that he will take the vaccine from Russia, in public, so that they can also experiment on him.
