Venice Introduces Entry Fee For Tourists

Due to the overcrowding that Venice has been experiencing, the city has announced an entry fee for tourists.

This marks Italy’s Venice as the world’s first city to introduce this scheme. The city will be charging a €3-€10 entry fee from tourists starting January 16, 2023. The price will not be fixed but will vary according to the number of visitors: The more requests for entry, the higher the cost.

Visitors will also have to make an online booking before travelling to Venice next year.

The launch date was announced by Venice’s councillor for tourism, Simone Venturini, at a press conference on Friday. Venturini called the new measure a “great revolution,” and a solution for the overtourism problem that the lagoon city has been struggling with for decades.
