Malta’s Tritons are back home.
The three huge figures that form the Tritons fountain at City Gate in Valletta have been put back in their place after being cleaned and refurbished by experts in Italy.
The bronze figures have been restored to their former glory as part of a €4 million facelift of the area.
The former bus station will be transformed into a public park.
Officials said the bronze basin supported by the tritons has been replaced following its collapse in 1978.
The fountain itself has undergone extensive rehabilitation, with new pipework, a new pump room and a thorough cleaning of its stone slabs.
The Tritons Fountain, designed by Maltese sculptor Vincent Apap, was unveiled in 1959.
