Tributes have been paid to a ‘lovely and sociable’ woman who died in a horror road accident in Marsa.
Laura Paffenholz, 23, died when she was hit by a lorry near the Addolorata Cemetery at around 10.45pm on Saturday night.
She had been riding pillion on the back of her Maltese boyfriend’s motorbike when it skidded in the middle of the road.
While he escaped unscathed, his girlfriend was run over by a lorry, driven by a 43-year-old Italian man.
Laura, who grew up in the German spa town of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, had only been in Malta for around 11 months.
She had been in a relationship for the past six months with a police officer from Zejtun.
Friends in Malta rushed to social media to pay tribute to her.
One said: ‘Laura was a lovely, sociable girl who was much loved.
‘She will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her.’
Another added: ‘Rest in peace, I was only talking to you at work the other day. I cant believe it’s you.’
A third posted on Facebook: ‘Such a beautiful life taken too soon.’
A spokesman for The Malta Police Force told 89.7 Bay: ‘Preliminary investigations by the District Police found that a 23-year-old person from Zejtun lost control of the motorcycle he was driving and crashed.
‘A 23-year-old German national was a riding pillion on the motorcycle.
‘The passenger was hit by a truck, driven by a 43-year-old Italian person, after falling off the motorcycle.
‘A medical team was called on site but unfortunately, the passenger was certified dead on the scene.’
