An investigation has been launched after a pensioner tragically drowned off the Maltese coast.
Saviour Grima, 71, from Birkirkara reportedly fell into the sea while he was fishing near the Gozo ferry terminal at Cirkewwa.
He was rescued from the water and taken up to dry land where an emergency medical team tried to revive him.
Malta Police told 89.7 Bay they were alerted at around 9.20am on Sunday morning.
Mr Grima had three children and five nephews.
Friends paid tribute to him on Facebook.
One wrote: ‘Heartfelt condolences to the family of Salvu Grima.
‘I’ve known him since he was young as he spent many years working with us as a carpenter. Rest in peace friend and pray for us!’
