A man has died after going for a swim at Gozo’s most popular beach.
Eyewitnesses told 89.7 Bay the 50-year-old found himself in trouble in the rough sea at Ramla Bay.
He was pulled to shore by lifeguards but sadly passed away on the sand.
A double red flag, warning people that it was too dangerous to swim, had been flying at the beach at the time.
Police said they were alerted at around 3pm on Tuesday.
The dead man’s friend, 51, who was swimming with him at the time, was rushed to Gozo General Hospital for treatment after the terrifying ordeal.
Ramla Bay is the most popular beach in Gozo – and is regarded as one of the best in the Maltese Islands.
