Tragedy as Malta police officer dies after choking on food

A Maltese police officer has tragically died after choking on his food.

PC Ryan Tonna, 36, reportedly started gasping for breath while eating in a restaurant.

The father-of-one, who worked with the police drugs squad, was having a meal after running a marathon in the Italian city of Pisa when he passed away.

A Red Cross ambulance was called to the scene but paramedics were unable to save him.

The tragedy comes less than 24 hours after the sad death of Malta’s most respected traffic cop PC Alfred Sciberras.

Ryan’s former colleagues paid tribute to him on social media.

One described him as ‘inspirational’.

He leaves behind his wife Amanda and their young son.
