A tourist has been rushed to hospital after getting into difficulties in the sea off Malta.
The French holidaymaker, 83, was trying to cool off from the 32°C heat when she was spotted in distress at a bay near Cirkewwa.
She was rescued by fellow swimmers who called the emergency services.
Police told 89.7 Bay they were alerted at 6.15pm on Wednesday evening.
A spokesman for The Malta Police Force said: ‘An ambulance was called and took the victim to Mater Dei Hospital where she was later certified as suffering from serious injuries.’
On Sunday, a fisherman tragically died after falling into the sea at Cirkewwa.
Saviour Grima, 71, from Birkirkara was fishing with a friend near the Gozo ferry terminal when he slipped and plunged into the deep water.
His family said their father ‘passed away doing what he liked best’.
