Come with me, and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination, as Warner Bros. is preparing to reintroduce audiences to the top-hatted chocolate chief in a new prequel movie from the director of Paddington, and Tom Holland is rumoured to play Willy Wonka!
Timothée Chalamet is also reportedly being eyed to play Willy Wonka – however, no casting has been confirmed as of yet. The literary icon was first brought to life by Gene Wilder in 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
The movie will be titled Wonka and is hoping to commence production sometime over the next few months, so as to be able to premiere on March 17th, 2023.
The film will be directed by Paul King, the main man behind all of the Paddington movies. Meanwhile, Harry Potter’s David Heyman is on-board as producer, and Simon Rich is penning the screenplay.
Not much of the plot has been revealed yet, but it’s said that the film will focus on Willy Wonka’s younger years in his renowned chocolate factory. The Oompa Loompas have not yet been confirmed for an appearance either.
Elsewhere, Netflix will be releasing two animated shows based on Dahl’s book, both of which will be written and directed by Taika Waititi.
