Three Maltese athletes embarked on an 18-hour non-stop kayak voyage from Malta to Sicily, with the goal of raising awareness about child and youth obesity.
Karen Amato, Ruben Vassallo, and Daniel Seguna, successfully paddled an estimated 100 kilometers from St Paul’s Bay to Marina di Ragusa in Sicily at a strategic speed of 6.5 kilometers per hour.
They left St Paul’s Bay about 4.30 a.m. and reached the halfway point at 11.30 a.m., with fair weather and other variables not obstructing their progress.
They’ve been training for this trek for months, giving credit to daring athlete Neil Agius as their inspiration.
After successfully completing the 18-hour non-stop challenge, Amato, Vassallo and Seguna stated that with enough determination and the appropriate mindset, anything can be achieved.
