This App Will Pay You To Quit Social Media

Social media has become such an integral part of our lives that many people struggle to function without it.

Many claim that social media has a negative impact on our mental health and productivity, yet most of us would find it difficult to give it up, even for a short time. In light of this, one app is promising to pay users almost €2,300 (£2,000) to give up social media for just two months in order to figure out why this happens.

Uptime is a free app that claims to provide “Knowledge Hacks” from the “world’s best books, courses and documentaries” and it’s searching for someone to give up social media for two months.

You don’t need any specific talents or credentials; all you need is to be a “social media fan” with accounts on at least four social media platforms. The ultimate goal of the study is to evaluate if giving up social media has a beneficial impact on the applicant’s happiness and productivity.

“The successful applicant will be paid £2,000 to stop using all social media for the eight-week period.  We will also find out how they use their newfound downtime, as well as ask them to record their happiness levels, behaviour and productivity whilst not spending their free time on the platforms they use like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Snapchat and YouTube,”
