Things to do in Malta and Gozo this weekend

There’s lots going on in Malta this weekend.

If you’re a chocolate lover, Hamrun plays host to the annual chocolate festival on Saturday night.

Elsewhere, there’s a chance to get out into the Maltese countryside on Sunday with a guided nature walk at Selmun near Mellieha.

Here’s our pick of what to get up to in Malta this weekend.

Hamrun Chocolate Festival

A festival dedicated to chocolate? Sign us up!

The annual Hamrun Chocolate Festival will be held on Saturday 26 October.

It has become the most celebrated chocolate event in Malta and features everything from theatre and music performances to live cooking demonstrations and chocolate art exhibits.

A highlight for most visitors is the collection of outdoor chocolate sculptures.

Mellieha Nature Walk

BirdLife Malta is organising its first nature walk of the autumn around the Selmun countryside in Mellieha on Sunday 27 October.

The walk will start at Selmun Palace at 8.30am and then head down to Mgiebah Valley.

After a break, you then cross the valley, up again to the starting point.

This is a moderate-to-difficult walk with some rough terrain. Appropriate footwear is recommended.

In Guardia Parade

Whether you’re a history fan or not, there’s one event in Malta you should experience at least once.

The In Guardia Parade is a re-enactment that portrays an authentic event that took place regularly in Malta’s military forts.

It will be held on Sunday at Fort St Elmo in Valletta. The show begins at 11.00am and lasts 40 minutes.

Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin Carving will be held at Piscopo Gardens in Burmarrad on Saturday and Sunday, just in time for Halloween.

During the event, there will be various games and activities.

The event starts at 9am and finishes at 6pm on both days.

Check out a film at the Eden Cinemas

There are lots of great films to see this weekend at the Eden Cinemas in St Julian’s.

‘Downton Abbey’ starring Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville is a big box office hit, or you can check out Jennifer Lopez in her new film ‘Hustlers’.

Joaquin Phoenix stars in ‘Joker’, and Angelina Jolie is amazing in ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’.
