IAMS has developed a new NOSEiD app, which through image-detection technology, scans a lost dog’s unique nose print to help provide their rescuer with the owner’s contact information and reunite them!
This creative way not only helps identify lost dogs but keeps them from getting lost for long too. In the US, 10 million pets are reported lost or stolen annually, so to combat this statistic, IAMS developed this app. However, it is currently restricted to a sector of the US until it expands overseas.
Just like the human fingerprint, each dog’s nose print is unique, so using their print is a great, non-invasive way to help identify lost pets! Dog owners can create a profile for their pets by scanning their noses and adding photos and a physical description of their canines.
And, if a dog registered with the NOSEiD app goes missing, their owner can report their dog as lost, and the app will instantly send a missing dog alert to other NOSEiD app users in their community so that they can be on the lookout.
If the nose print matches that of a missing dog, then the finder can connect with the dog’s family through the app. The official statement reads, ‘Pets are irreplaceable family members, and with the NOSEiD app, we’re hoping to help keep more pets in their loving homes and out of shelters — taking another step toward our goal of ending pet homelessness’.
The NOSEiD app is available for both Apple and Android devices, but it will be a while until it reaches Malta!
