Singapore Airlines is no longer the best airline in the world.
Last year’s winner has been knocked off the top spot by Qatar Airways, which has been crowned the World’s Best Airline for 2019.
It’s is the fifth time Qatar Airways has won the Best Airline prize at the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards.
It also took the title in 2017, 2015, 2012 and 2011.
Qatar Group chief executive Akbar Al Bakar said: ‘Becoming the first airline to be named as ‘Airline of the Year’ for the fifth time is a landmark achievement.’
Qatar Airways, which operates daily flights to Malta, also won the award for World’s Best Business Class, World’s Best Business Class Seat and Best Airline in the Middle East – beating Emirates and Etihad.
Singapore Airlines was named as the world’s second best airline and it was followed by Japan’s All Nippon Airways, Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific and Dubai’s Emirates.
The only European airline in the top 10 was Lufthansa in ninth place, but EasyJet was named as the world’s second best low-cost airline for 2019.
