The 10 prettiest squares in Gozo you just have to visit

Gozo has got to be one of the single prettiest islands in the Mediterranean.

And there’s nothing nicer than mooching around Gozo’s village squares at the weekend.

You’ll find some of the prettiest in Xaghra, Nadur, Zebbug and Gharb.

Here are our picks of some of the most picturesque Gozo squares to explore this autumn.

 

1. Xewkija

Xewkija is the oldest village in Gozo and is best known for its awesome rotunda

2. Nadur

Nadur enjoys fabulous views over land and sea

3. Xaghra

Xagħra is home to the extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Ġgantija temple complex

4. Gharb

Gharb is a traditional rural village and one of Gozo’s oldest

5. San Lawrenz

San Lawrenz is a charming traditional village in western Gozo just inland of the unusual geological attractions of Dwejra Bay. It is surrounded by three hills, Ta’ Għammar, Ta’ Gelmus and Ta’ Dbiegi

6. Zebbug

Żebbuġ sits on the top of a hill in the north of Gozo with panoramic views of the countryside

 

7. St George’s Square, Victoria

The capital city of Gozo was renamed in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee

8. Ghajnsielem

Għajnsielem means ‘peaceful spring’ and originated from the natural water spring in the area

9. Qala

Qala is the easternmost village in Gozo and boasts fabulous views over the sea to Comino and Malta

10. Sannat

Sannat is best known for its spectacular Ta’ Ċenċ cliffs, the highest cliffs in Gozo
