Summer is on the rise and it’s about to make one hell of a comeback – no, seriously! A June heatwave is expected to hit the Islands next week, with temperatures rising to a whopping 36°C on Monday, but it will feel as hot as 38°C.
Meanwhile, temperatures will start rising over the weekend, with temperatures reaching 31°C to 33°C, as per the Malta Meteorological Office forecast.
A slight cool down will then be expected as the week progresses, with a predicted high of 35°C on Wednesday and Thursday, feeling like 37°C. This differs from the mean maximum temperature norm for June, which stands at 28.6°C.
Given the sudden rise in temperature, people are advised to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from high UV levels, especially between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm.
The Met Office even revealed that, as per previous records, the highest the mercury has ever climbed in June was 40.1°C in 1997. Similar heatwaves were experienced in 2017 and 2019.
