Supermarket boss makes huge donation to Maltese charities

The owner of one of Malta’s biggest supermarket chains has made a huge donation to charity.

Retail tycoon Paul Gauci transferred a whopping €7 million in shares to seven different good causes across Malta and Gozo.

His company operates Pavi supermarket in Qormi as well as Pama supermarket in Mosta, and the Zara fashion store in Sliema.

The shares were transferred from his personal 75 per cent shareholding in PG Group.

Mr Gauci said: ‘This is not simply a donation but shares which these charities deserve for the good they do in the community.

‘I want them to be part of the PG family.’

The charities which will benefit from the huge cash boost include the Malta Trust Foundation, Puttinu Cares, Caritas, Dar tal-Providenza and Ursuline Homes.

Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, the head of the The Malta Trust Foundation, thanked the Gauci family for their incredible generosity.

The former President of Malta said: ‘I would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to Mr Paul Gauci and his wife, who, with their generosity are contributing to the much-needed change in the lives of children and young people who come from vulnerable backgrounds in the Maltese Islands.’
