Dozens of adorable shelters for stray cats have started popping up all over Malta and Gozo.
Last month, 89.7 Bay told how a cat lover from Rabat designed and created a row of luxury cat homes to help the strays she cares for in Ta’ Qali.
And now it seems more and more Maltese local councils are following suit and becoming ‘feline friendly’.
In Sliema, a number of incredible cat homes have appeared in Independence Gardens.
Located near Exiles, the shelters almost look like dolls’ houses and even offer spectacular views across St Julian’s Bay.
A sign next to the cat villas reads: ‘We are a family of abandoned cats. Please have mercy on us.’
Tonio Bone who first spotted the new cat homes posted on social media: ‘In Sliema! Wonderful!’
Another Facebook user wrote: ‘Whoever made these deserves an award!’
Zabbar has also followed suit after 89.7 Bay‘s report on the Ta’ Qali cat shelters went viral on social media last month.
The town’s deputy mayor confirmed that the local council has bought six plastic shelters for the stray cats that live in the area.
Mark Grech said: ‘I’m committed to keep working for these cat’s rights in full collaboration with the Zabbar cat feeders.’
