Study Finds Cannabis Could Prevent Covid-19

A recent study conducted by the American Chemical Society and American Society of Pharmacognosy stated that “Cannabinoids block cellular entry of SARS-CoV-2 and the emerging variants”.

The study published in the Journal of Natural Products has shown that isolated cannabinoids or those in hemp extracts have the potential to prevent and treat the infection with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2) by blocking viral cell entry.

In order to treat or prevent infections by Covid-19 and its variant, small-molecule treatment agents are necessary. Turning to natural products can be the most successful way to treat the virus.

A team of scientists led by Dr. Richard B. van Breemen from the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University in the US used a technique called affinity-selection mass spectrometry to prove that the acids extracted from cannabis plants can protect human cells from the virus.

The WHO has not confirmed that any of the findings are true yet.
