You didn’t imagine it – last month really was one of the wettest Octobers on record in Malta and Gozo.
Weather experts have confirmed that an astonishing 94mm of rain fell on the Maltese Islands in October – that’s around 20mm than we’d normally expect for the time of year.
October was twice as stormy than average with 11 days of thunder and lightning recorded by the end of October.
A spokeswoman for the Met Office in Luqa said: ‘October recorded above average stormy weather with 11 days of thundery rain, six more than the monthly average.
‘October was capped off with 24.6 mm of rainfall dousing the islands on 29 October, making the day the wettest one of the month.’
We enjoyed plenty of sunshine too – with a daily average of 6.8 hours of sunny skies a day last month.
A total of 212.1 sunshine hours were recorded in October.
Figures compiled by Maltese Islands Weather show that Gozo is generally much wetter than Malta – with weather stations in Victoria, Gharb and Nadur recording higher than normal rainfall in September and October.
