On Sunday 8th August, the organisers of the 30th Jubilee edition of the Malta Open wrapped up yet another successful event at the Eden SuperBowl! The tournament welcomed all bowlers who form part of any National Bowling Associations or Federations.
The tournament consisted of 12 qualifying games, after which the final knockout stages were played. In total, 47 competitors from 14 countries battled it out for the trophy, but it was England’s Steven Jeeves who claimed his win in the end!
But this isn’t his first win… Yep, Jeeves is no stranger to victory, so much so that he’s won previous major tournaments abroad, like the French Senior Open and the Dutch Senior Open.
The other finalist of this year’s final was Mark Jacobs from Holland. The grand final was extremely close, with Jacobs gaining the advantage in the first game as Jeeves secured his win with a massive lead in the second game. In the end, Jeeves got to take home the trophy with a final score of 484!
Dejan Cosic, General Manager at Eden SuperBowl remarked, ‘This year’s Malta Open was very successful with strong competitors and close results that left everyone excited for the faceoff in the grand final.’
‘Having cancelled last year’s Malta Open due to the pandemic, this year we made an extra effort to ensure everyone was bowling in a safe environment. We had all the necessary COVID-19 measures in place and ended up with a successful event as a result.’.
Cosic went on, ‘The feedback we received from players and viewers was all positive with many players saying that they could not wait to return to the competition next year. We would like to congratulate Steven Jeeves on his latest win, he fought hard and his victory was well-deserved.’
