A good chunk of local producers submitted their projects to participate in the first-ever edition of the Malta Film Awards, which will be held on January 29th, 2022.
Next year’s Film Awards will see 80 producers, 60 directors, and 340. In the first edition of this event, a large number of crew from numerous departments will also be joining, especially those in hair & make-up, costume, and cinematography, as well as those in post-production departments like editing or sound design.
72 projects – including feature films, television series, documentaries, and short films – were submitted for the Malta Film Awards.
The Awards will be organised by the Malta Film Commission alongside the Public Broadcasting Services and will celebrate local talent and creativity in the local film and television industry.
Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech stated: ‘Unity always wins. And today the majority of Maltese producers rose to the occasion to celebrate their stories. This is a success story, and I am so proud of all those who produce locally and who have submitted their projects for the first edition of the Malta Film Awards.’
‘Evidently, the Malta Film Commission is representing a Movement of the Creative Arts, where together we will be celebrating the skills and talents of our local industry.’, he added.
These 72 projects are set to be viewed by a jury of both local and international experts in November, made up of professionals from different sectors like production, arts, music, academia, and media.
With the theme “Celebrating Our Story”, the Malta Film Awards will be held on the 29th of January at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
