Selena Gomez reveals Instagram ‘made her depressed’

Selena Gomez has revealed she has deleted Instagram from her phone because it made her ‘feel depressed’.

The singer is the third most followed celebrity on the photo-sharing site with 152 million fans.

But The Dead Don’t Die star said she removed it from her phone after she said noticed the negative impact the social media platform had on her mental health.

Appearing on Live with Kelly and Ryan on ABC, she said: ‘I think it’s become really unhealthy for young people, including myself, to spend all of their time fixating on all of these comments and it was affecting me.

‘It would make me depressed, it would make me feel not good about myself, and look at my body differently.’

‘I have it on someone else’s phone and when I feel like I wanna share something with my fans, I do it then.’

Gomez regularly speaks out against the ‘dangerous’ effects of social media on younger people.
In an interview at Cannes Film Festival in May, the actress warned it was’impossible’ to make the platforms safer for users targeted by bullying.
‘I think our world is going through a lot, obviously. But for my generation, specifically, social media has been terrible.’
