Science Says that Putting Your Christmas Tree Up Early, “Makes You Happier”

This goes out to all the grinches out there. As most of Malta seemed to think that yesterday was the ideal day to put up the Christmas Tree, we will always find, those who will say “December hasn’t started yet! It’s too early for me!”

But with the major Christmas adverts now out and doing the rounds, I personally feel this was the clear indication that it was time to scour the house, to find the decoration boxes, in what last January seemed to be the perfect hiding spot!

Let’s face it! Christmas, pandemic or not, brings with it a sense of excitement, however, psychologist Deborah Serani has explained that decorating your house and putting your Christmas tree up can actually lead to a shift in hormones, making us all feel happier – which is what we need!

Serani said: “I think anything that takes us out of our normal habituation, the normal day in, day out … signals our senses, and then our senses measure if it’s pleasing or not. Christmas decorating will spike dopamine, a feel-good hormone.”

With science on our side, if you haven’t already done so, turn up Bay Xmas, get the boxes out, and decorate!
