Saudi royal denies interest in buying Manchester United

The crown prince of Saudi Arabia has denied reports that he intends to buy Manchester United.

Mohammed Bin Salman was reported to be launching a £3.8 billion offer to take control of the Premier League club.

However, the Arab kingdom’s media minister Turki al-Shabanah posted on Twitter: ‘Reports claiming that HRH the Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman intends on buying Man Utd are completely false.

‘Manchester United held a meeting with the Saudi Public Investment Fund to discuss sponsorship opportunities.’

United’s American owners, the Glazer family, bought the Old Trafford club for £790 million almost 14 years ago.

United already have business interests with Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Telecom is the club’s official telecommunications partner.

The club also signed a memorandum of understanding with the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia last year to help develop football in the country.
