Royal Family Honours Prince Philip With Touching Quote From 50th Wedding Anniversary

Following his recent passing, the Royal Family honoured Prince Philip last Saturday by sharing a quote from Queen Elizabeth’s anniversary speech to him in 1997, after being married for 50 years.

The Queen shared, ‘He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know’, alongside a sweet photo of the two from five years ago and some more information about the late Duke.

News of Prince Philip’s death at 99 years old was announced just last Friday, having been married to the Queen for 73 years.

However, Charles Anson, former press secretary to the Queen, shared that the Queen was prepared for her husband’s death after years of health troubles. He explained, ‘In my years of working for her she was always calm, no matter what was going on. But for any human being, this is a very cathartic moment’.

‘She has an enormous amount of family support for her and will also take comfort from the enormity of the support from all over the world’, he added.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles shared a video message following his father’s death, sharing, ‘I particularly wanted to say that my father, for I suppose the last 70 years, has given the most remarkable, devoted service to The Queen, to my family and to the country, but also to the whole of the Commonwealth’.

Prince Philip’s funeral has been set for 17th April.
