Ronaldo double helps Juventus set new Serie A record

Cristiano Ronaldo has helped Juventus set a new Italian league record.

Two goals from Ronaldo clinched a 2-1 win against Sampdoria to help Juventus set a new Serie A record for the most points registered in the first half of a season.

Ronaldo gave the defending champions an early lead.

After Fabio Quagliarella had equalised with a first-half penalty, the Portuguese star converted a controversial spot-kick himself in the 65th minute.

That effort was Juve’s 100th goal in 2018 in all competitions.

Elsewhere, 10-man AC Milan scored for the first time in five league games to complete a comeback victory over SPAL.

Napoli bounced back to winning ways after their Boxing Day defeat at Inter Milan thanks to Dries Mertens’ late strike in a 3-2 home win against Bologna.

Roma clinched back-to-back victories after a 2-0 win at Parma.

Genoa were held 0-0 by Fiorentina at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, while Ignacio Pussetto and Valon Behrami scored in either half as 10-man Udinese beat Cagliari 2-0 at home.
