Roberta Metsola Elected As The Youngest-Ever EU Parliament President

Roberta Metsola, the trailblazing politician from the EU’s smallest nation, has become the newest EU Parliament President in history.

Metsola is the youngest president ever and the 3rd female president ever.

Metsola gave an empowering speech after accepting her new role as EU Parliament President. “It will not be another two decades until the next woman is standing here,” she said. She also spoke strongly about attacks on the EU, climate change and journalism.

Prime Minister, Robert Abela also congratulated Metsola online.

Roberta Metsola was already the First Vice President in the EU Parliament. She received 458 votes from a possible total of 616 in the first round of voting. This meant a landslide victory of 74%!

The two other candidates for the role of President were Swedish MEP Alice Bah Kuhnke and Spanish MEP Sira Rego.

This election for EP President came earlier than expected because of the tragic death of the former president, David Sassoli.
