Malta has a new Prime Minister.
Robert Abela was sworn-in during a special ceremony at the Palace in Valletta on Monday afternoon.
He took the oath of office in front of the President of Malta, George Vella.
Dr Abela was accompanied by his wife Lydia, daughter Giorgia Mae, and other relatives.
After the ceremony, he greeted crowds of wellwishers gathered in St George’s Square.
The new Prime Minister told reporters: ‘I am ready to serve’.
His first job after settling in to his new office at Castille will be to appoint a Cabinet.
His chief of staff has already been confirmed as former JobsPlus chief executive and former Zabbar mayor Clyde Caruana.
Dr Abela, 42, was elected to Parliament three years ago.
In an Instagram post on Monday morning, outgoing Prime Minister Joseph Muscat wished Dr Abela and his family well.
