A turtle which was rescued during the ferocious storms that hit Malta and Gozo in February has been released back into the wild.
Crowds of schoolchildren clapped as the Janis the loggerhead turtle made her way down the sand and vanished under the waves at Gnejna Bay.
Janis was found entangled in fishing line and rope by sailors from the Armed Forces of Malta nine months ago.
The turtle was nursed back to health by the dedicated wildlife team at Nature Trust – FEE Malta.
She has been fitted with a satellite tracker so you can follow her movements around the Mediterranean Sea via the Nature Trust Malta website.
Around 50 turtles have been rescued by Nature Trust Malta over the last 12 months.
