Gozo welcome a record number of visitors for the Santa Marija holiday.
Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana made the announcement as she handed out prizes for the traditional greasy pole competition in Marsalforn.
Gozo Channel passenger figures are not yet available, but last year more than 90,000 people and 20,000 cars travelled by ferry in the days surrounding the Santa Marija long weekend.
It’s the second time the traditional ‘Gostra’ event has been held at Marsalforn Bay in recent years.
The minister said: ‘I think it’s very important to try to keep these kind of traditional fun activities alive in Gozo.
‘They’re great entertainment and tourists love to watch what’s going on.’
A total of 15 people took part in the Marsalforn greasy pole event this year, including three women for the first time.
