Malta’s booming cruise liner industry has sailed to a new record.
The number of sea-borne holidaymakers arriving in Valletta’s Grand Harbour soared by 21 per cent last year, according to figures published on Tueasday.
The Office for National Statistics said a total of 765,696 cruise passengers came to Malta in 2019.
Most were aged between 60 and 79, followed by passengers aged 40 to 59.
The most significant increases were recorded in the British, German and US markets.
The number of visiting ships rose to 359, compared to 310 the previous year.
