Maltese footballer signs deal with European giants

Women’s football is becoming more and more popular in Malta.

Hundreds of girls take up the game every year, starting with PE lessons at school.

But now one Maltese footballer is heading for the big time in women’s football.

Rachel Cuschieri, who plays for the Maltese national side, has joined the mighty PSV Eindhoven.

Rachel, 26, from Kappara, agreed a two-year deal with the Dutch giants in a move from Belgian side Anderlecht.

Previously, she played in Cyprus with Apollon Limassol.

Before heading abroad, Rachel won the Maltese Women’s Premiership with Birkirkara a total of three times.

Unfortunately, she has been out of  action since February after suffering an injury in training.##
Writing on Facebook, Rachel said: ‘PSV believed in my qualities and I’m happy to say I have signed with them for two years.
‘Thanks to RS Anderlecht for giving me the opportunity to play here and meet amazing people along the way and getting the chance to win the competition’.
Good luck Rachel!
