Professor Friggieri’s State-Organised Funeral will be taking place tomorrow, with a mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral at 2pm, which will be celebrated by Mons Charles J Scicluna, Archbishop of Malta.
The Government has also declared that tomorrow will be a national day of mourning, with flags flying half-mast at all public buildings.
The Funeral cortege will leave Mater Dei Hospital at 12:45pm onto the University of Malta where Professor Friggieri spent most of his years teaching within the Maltese Department.
The Cortege will then proceed to Professor Friggieri’s private residence in Fleur-De-Lys, and then to St Publius’ Church in Floriana, Professor Friggieri’s hometown, before proceeding to Valletta.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, only people who receive an official invitation can attend the service, which will be broadcast live on TVM, and on the MaltaGov Facebook page.
Professor Friggieri is considered one of the giants of Maltese literature having written countless amounts of books, poems and novels in Maltese – and passed away last Saturday, aged 73. His legacy will definitely live on through his books and through the many students who were lucky enough to have had Prof Friggieri as their teacher.
