The Prime Minister and his wife have joined thousands of people for Malta’s biggest charity fun run.
Sports fanatic Robert Abela and wife Lydia were at the front of the starting line in Mdina for The President’s Solidarity Fun Run on Sunday.
He told reporters: ‘This is an event of national unity and I truly believe in it.
‘It is a noble run for the Malta Community Chest Fund and promotes physical activity, something I’ve always believed in.
‘Let’s have fun together this morning.’
The fun run initiative was launched by his the Prime Minister’s father George Abela when he was President of Malta.
Sunny weather greeted the runners as the 11th edition of the event started at Mdina Gate, winding its way through Rabat, Attard, Hamrun and Floriana before ending outside the Palace in Valletta.
President George Vella thanked all those who took part and helped to raise thousands of euros for The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.
The crowd in St George’s Square was also addressed by Nationalist Party deputy leader David Agius and Valletta mayor Alfred Zammit, who both praised the charity initative.
