The first phase of Gozo’s new state-of-the-art medical school has been officially opened by the Prime Minister.
Joseph Muscat hailed the opening of the Barts Anatomy Centre as ‘a major milestone’.
He said: ‘Today we are turning Gozo into a centre of medical excellence.’
Dr Muscat said 59 medical students had already started their studies in Gozo.
He added: They are the future generation of doctors, professors, specialists and researchers in various fields of medicine.
‘They’re getting training here in Gozo and taking their knowledge far and wide.
‘We want these students to feel proud to call our islands their home.’
A new anatomy centre is situated next to Gozo General Hospital in Victoria.
The building, part of the Barts and London School of Medicine and Dentistry, is equipped with the most up-to-date facilities to support anatomy and clinical skills teaching.
It includes an anatomy lab where students will undertake practicals and tutors will lead demonstrations using anatomical specimens and models.
