A pregnant woman has tragically lost her baby following a crash at one of Malta’s worst accident blackspots.
The mum-to-be, 27, was among six people rushed to hospital after a car and a lorry collided on a notorious bend on Margaret Murray Street in Naxxar.
Doctors at Mater Dei Hospital said she lost the baby she had been carrying for seven months as a direct result of the heavy impact.
The woman, from Belarus, remains in intensive care.
A six-year-old girl was also seriously injured in the collision.
Malta Police told 89.7 Bay they were called to the accident scene at around 6pm on Thursday evening.
They said both vehicles were heading towards Naxxar when the Alfa Romeo car hit the rear of the lorry, driven by a man from Fgura.
The road was closed for almost an hour while officers investigated the collision, leading to a huge traffic jam stretching from San Gwann to Burmarrad.
