“Precautionary Measures During Childbirth Could Soon Be Amended” – DPM Chris Fearne

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne said that the precautionary measures which are currently in place in the Mater Dei Hospital Labour Ward could be one of the next measures to be lifted in three weeks’ time, if the COVID-19 situation remains as it is, under control.

At the moment fathers are only allowed to assist their partner in the final stages of labour – a measure which caused quite an uproar on social media, amongst expecting mothers.

Hon Fearne was speaking in Parliament when he said that when it is ensured that there will not be an increase in Coronavirus cases due to the first set of relaxed measures, which started from this Monday, other restrictive measures can start being eased, adding that allowing fathers in the delivery room throughout the entire birthing process will be one of them.
