Police launch crackdown on bad driving in Gozo

Police have launched a crackdown on bad driving in Gozo.

More than 100 cars were stopped and searched by traffic officers in Gozo on Wednesday as part of the festive road safety campaign.

A Malta Police spokesman said: ‘Several motorists were stopped and fined for traffic offences, including driving without a seat belt, driving without a valid driving licence, driving without a valid insurance policy, overloading of passengers and speeding.’

The checks were carried out in Nadur, Xewkija and Victoria.

On New Year’s Eve, police stopped more than 550 drivers across Malta.

Three motorists were found to be over the legal drink-drive limit.

Spot checks were carried out in Birkirkara, Burmarrad, Mellieha, Naxxar, Lija, Msida, St Julian’s, Qormi and Marsascala.
