Police interrogations with the suspect of last Sunday’s murder were suspended after he had to be sent to Mount Carmel mental hospital.
The prime suspect for the murder Abner Aquilina was initially taken to Mater Dei Hospital but later had to be referred to Mount Carmel. This meant that police interrogations on the murder were suspended.
The murder victim, 29-year-old Paulina Maria Dembska was found lifeless at Independence Gardens at around 6.30am last Sunday morning. Although full autopsy results are still not available, police believe that Paulina had been sexually abused and strangled following signs of violence from her chest upwards which indicate so.
The suspect was then arrested in front of the Balluta parish church a few moments after her body was found. Aquilina entered the church causing chaos which drew the police’s attention.
Police investigations also revealed that Paulina Dembska was likely not linked to her killer. This is leading them to believe that the killing was done at random.
