Last December, the Malta Police Force mourned one of its own as PC 773, Ryan Tonna, died tragically in Pisa. Ryan Tonna had choked after taking part in a Pisa marathon.
Tonna served in the Drug Squad and his colleagues describe him as ‘an examplary officer’. “His change in lifestyle to an athletic one inspired many who do not believe in themselves as being capable of such a change. Although we still cannot believe such a loss, we know your inspiration will continue,” the Simon Schembri Foundation had tweeted last December.
In a touching and meaningful gesture, Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa yesterday welcomed the son and the family of PC 773, and presented them with personalised Blue Line Bears.
Blue Line Bears is a non-profit organisation with the goal of helping the children of Law Enforcement officers who passed away, cope with the devastating loss of a parent by creating personalised bears using the uniform of his/her parent.
The organisation was contacted by the colleagues of Ryan Tonna and arrangements were made to have these soft toys delivered from the USA to Malta and handed to the family by the Commissioner of Police Angelo Gafà.
