Controversial plans t0 build a pier next to Malta’s Blue Lagoon have been scrapped.
The new yacht mooring platform was proposed outside the swimming zone between Comino and the Kemmunet islet.
The Ministry of Gozo had wanted to build a 660sq.m pier and resurface 915sq.m of an existing road leading to it.
However the Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee condemned the idea, claiming it would ‘completely destroy the natural foreshore of the picturesque Blue Lagoon’ which it described as an ‘iconic landmark’.
The application has now been drastically scaled back and limited to the resurfacing of an existing access road on Comino towards the Blue Lagoon.
