A bus driver is lucky to be alive after a horror early-morning crash in Floriana.
The bus, operated by Malta Public Transport, ended up slamming into a tree in the centre of St Anne Street as it headed towards Valletta.
Fortunately, there no were no passengers on the bus at the time, despite earlier reports, and the driver managed to escape unscathed from the accident.
A spokeswoman for Malta Public Transport confirmed: ‘The driver involved has been suspended following initial findings of the investigation.
‘No one was injured in the accident and there were no passengers on board the bus.’
She added: ‘The company’s response team was immediately on site and an internal investigation is currently underway.
‘The company regrets any inconvenience caused and would like to thank the respective authorities for their immediate response and assistance.’
Eyewitness photos shared on social media show the front windscreen of the bus was completely smashed.
Malta Police confirmed no-one was injured in the accident, which happened at around 4am on Sunday.
