Otter Predicted Japan’s Win Over Germany

Taiyo the Otter had predicted Japan winning over Germany a day before the match took place.

Japanese supporters were ecstatic online when a river otter from a Tokyo aquarium correctly predicted Samurai Blue’s shocking victory over four-time champion Germany in their World Cup opener on Wednesday in Qatar.

The previous day, Taiyo, an 8-year-old boy at the Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa, had demonstrated his preference for the Samurai Blue by placing a toy soccer ball in the blue bucket bearing the Japanese flag while ignoring the red and yellow buckets bearing the German and draw flags.

Japanese soccer fans gushed about the otter online after Japan’s 2-1 triumph, calling him “wonderful” and “very competent.”

Others expected him to predict the outcome of Sunday’s group round match versus Costa Rica.
