Only 13% of Malta’s Population Chooses to Travel by Bus

Compared to a survey conducted in August of 2019 by a local newspaper source, less people are now opting to travel around Malta by bus.

Despite students and the elderly being able to use public transport, free of charge, only 13.6% of the people asked chose to travel by public transport compared to the 16.8% of last August.

Buses are least popular among the younger and middle-aged generations. Only 5% of people aged 18 to 35 travel by bus, and only 6% of people aged 36 to 50 use public transport.

75.3% of respondents said they opted to use their own cars to travel.

31.6% of those over 65 use the bus regularly. Buses are also popular with 17.2% of those between 51 and 65.

Gozitans are the least likely to opt for using public transport

The survey shows that people from Gozo are the least likely to travel by bus.

Only 6.3% said that they travel by public transport.
