The new Gozo ferry has gone straight to work, just hours after arriving in Malta from Greece.
The ship, Nikolaus, was hailed by commuters on social media as ‘already making a difference’ to the queues waiting to board the ferries at Mgarr and Cirkewwa.
Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana said: ‘Although Nikolaos is scheduled to become officially operational next Monday with the introduction of the new timetable, Gozo Channel decided to operate Nikolaus straight away and alleviate the demand.
‘The difference was immediately felt.’
Gozo Channel’s new summer timetable will be launched on Monday morning, with trips every running 30 minutes from 0530 to 0900, and from 1630 to 2100, and every 45 minutes in between.
