The week we’ve all been waiting for is finally HERE, with Malta’s Got Talent Finals happening this Sunday, and one of our absolute favourite acts (or at least my personal fave) is golden-buzzer dance crew, The MVMT, which is a dance company founded by Cheryl Lofreda back in 2016.
Nonetheless, getting to this part in their journey surely wasn’t easy, especially having to handle so many participants of varying ages in the middle of, you know, a pandemic. Here at Bay, Cheryl shared with us that managing such a group during these times was tough, and the team had to make quite a few sacrifices when it came to where and what they could do.
In fact, The MVMT have been documenting their entire journey towards the finals, (*cue Drake’s “Started from The Bottom*), and you can watch everything that went down right here…
Though despite what you may think from the company name, dance goes beyond movement for the team and has a power that is “greater than what people think or expect”. The MVMT believes that through their energy and movement, they can influence their audience’s emotions and send clear messages. In other words, their primary purpose and goal are to bring awareness to people about certain situations and to “tell a story through their movement”.
In fact, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the MVMT share a story… As Cheryl shared in the auditions, the team was meant to go to LA this year to compete in the World of Dance Finals, but COVID-19 regretfully came in the way.
And now, following their breath-taking audition, which led them straight to the semi-finals, they’re now left to face their very last feat – the finals. And just like the two previous performances, the finale will be directed and choreographed by the talented Cheryl Lofreda, and will feature dancers; Luke Mizzi, Krista Attard, Mariah Bugeja, Rya Fenech, Chloe Scicluna, Ally Mifsud, Kyra Wyzlic, Charlize Falzon, Mariah Buhagiar, Chanel Busuttil, Skye Sperandeo, Natalia Camilleri, Petra Farrugia, Thea Sapiano, Michaela De Bono, Max Zahra, Sara Cardona, Martina Cardona, Rebekka Cardona, Maria Micallef, Shania Sammut, Ryan Mahlangu, and Denise Farrugia.
The Team has been gearing up for the finals by rehearsing for 20-25 hours every weekend – needless to say, we’re more than ready to see what the MVMT has in store for us this Sunday on the 13th of December!
