A murder investigation has been launched after a father-of-two was found dead in the Gozo countryside.
Officers were called to reports of a body in a field on the outskirts of Gharb at 7.45am on Monday.
It is reported that the man, who was Egyptian, had been shot.
He was married to a woman from Gozo but the couple had recently split up.
They had two children.
The Malta Independent newspaper reported that forensic experts were examining the murder scene near the chapel of St Dimitrius.
Police said a post-mortem examination would be held and they were treating the death as suspicious.
A Malta Police spokesperson said: ‘An autopsy will be carried out to establish the cause of death – however police are treating the death as suspicious.’
