It seems Gozo is more popular than ever.
The number of people travelling between Malta and Gozo has soared to a new record, according to official figures.
The National Statistics Office in Valletta said a whopping 1,535,414 passengers crossed the sea between April and June.
That’s an increase of 8.5 percent when compared to the same time last year.
The highest number of passengers was recorded in May at 513,598.
The number of cars, vans and lorries increased by 7.4 percent, totalling 423,152.
The figures will add to calls from Gozo business leaders for a tunnel to be built under the sea, linking the two islands.
It’s been a busy start to 2018 for ferry operator Gozo Channel.
During the first six months, they carried 2,656,415 passengers – an increase of 8.2 percent.
