More new jobs for Malta as Lufthansa Technik expands

Europe’s biggest aircraft maintenance firm is to expand its operations in Malta, creating up to 100 new jobs.

Lufthansa Technik plans to invest €25 million in additional facilities at Hal Farrug in Luqa.

Malta’s economy minister Chris Cardona took to social media to reveal the good news.

He tweeted: ‘Proud to announce that Lufthansa Technik will expand their operations in Malta with an investment of €25 million.

‘This investment will further consolidate the future of aviation services in Malta and create high-quality jobs.’

Lufthansa Technik currently employs more than 600 workers in Malta.

The company is able to carry out maintenance a number of aircraft in Luqa, including the Airbus A320, A330, A340 and the latest A350-1000.

It is working with the Malta Industrial Parks and Malta Enterprise on the building of a new hangar near their existing facilities, which is expected to be completed next year.

The new hangar will allow engineers to work on four wide-bodied aircraft simultaneously.
